I want to design my own micro processor, how should i go about it?

I want to develop a robot which could have its own microprocessor, which could sens any obstruction in its direction and could able to change the direction. Please help me.
I want to design my own micro processor, how should i go about it?
You don't want to design your microprocessor, trust me.

You want to do one of two things.

1. program an existing a microcontroller (such as an Arduino board) to do what you want.

2.Build a logic state machine. That could be rendered as code on a microcontroller, a Programmable Logic Array, actual logic chips, or my favorite, an EPROM which basically hold a table relating the input states (address) to the particular output states for each input instance (data)

How much would it cost to have a pc repair shop change my motherboard?

I have an HP pavilion DV6000 notebook, and it has an amd processor, the laptop its self is about 3 months old. but I want an intel core 2 duo processor in it, along with a good video card. So how much would it cost to have them give me an intel motherboard with a new video card, and install it themselves?
How much would it cost to have a pc repair shop change my motherboard?
The Motherboard itself is very expensive depending on the model of your computer.I had a sony vaio with a dead motherboard and it cost me $300 because I took it to a PC repair shop but now it overheats because those idiots gave me the wrong ac adapter. getting fixed through sony would have been $700.You gotta know who you dealing with.

Usually notebooks will not support this kind of upgrade. It will probably be cheaper to buy a different notebook that has the features that you want.

good luck

How much of a difference in gaming would this change make?

I want to switch my processor from a E6300 Duo Core at 1.86 GHz to a Q6600 Quad Core at 2.4 GHz. How much of a difference in gaming would this make? Is it worth it considering that the upgrade isn't too expensive?
How much of a difference in gaming would this change make?
If your game runs to your liking now and you are smart enuff to make sure your pc isnt running a ton of apps in the background, I doubt you will see much change in performance. Save your bucks for a possible future pc.
How much of a difference in gaming would this change make?
It depends on what game you're playing. Cyrsis, then yes. The Orange Box, then no. Not that many games use all four cores, most only use two. If you play games that only use two, then you should get an E8400, a fast 45nm dual core.
it'd make a large difference in gaming. And in general applications as well. I think the Q6600 is the best price/performance ratio for a computer.
Most of the games have their recommended and minimal requirements. But aside from that, games in general eat up a lot of RAM. So what I did was to max out the RAM (4 GB) and everything runs much smoother now. CPU doesn't play as big of a role as RAM.

Moreover, if you want more improvement on your applications speed, try upgrading the L2 Cache. Last but not least, your graphics card may not be so powerful to run your games.

List can go on and on. Those should be main factors though.

Cheers

How do i check my computer processor's socket type without taking it out?

Well im thinking about changing my motherboard, but i still want to use my old processor, but I am not sure what the socket type is.

Is there a way to do it w/o taking the actual processor chip off the motherboard?
How do i check my computer processor's socket type without taking it out?
try some search about your current processor type and it's compatibility with the socket on motherboard, so you'll find the type of the socket that you are using now.
How do i check my computer processor's socket type without taking it out?
Depends what version of windows you are using.

Generally it can be checked using My Computer icon on the desktop. Right click the icon and select properties and then go to device manager. You will see all the hardware information on your computer.
For Windows XP, go to:

Start-%26gt;Settings-%26gt;Control Panel, then

double click the %26quot;System%26quot; icon,

look at the information displayed on the

%26quot;General%26quot; tab. This should provide some

information about your processor. From

there google for information about that

specific processor.

Would you find converting to a new religion more appealing if they gave out prizes? like toasters at banks?

You'll switch banks for a coffee maker, how about changing churches for a food processor?
Would you find converting to a new religion more appealing if they gave out prizes? like toasters at banks?
Can I get a new set of W眉sthof knives instead? The professional line, of course. Food processors and I don't get along too well. Never have and never will.

You are aware I'll go back to my own faith the minute I get the knives, right? 'Tis the heathen way and has been the heathen way for many, many centuries. (Though admittedly most people don't try to convert us as they seem to find us a little frightening and they wouldn't DREAM of handing one of us a knife.)
Would you find converting to a new religion more appealing if they gave out prizes? like toasters at banks?
You betcha.
no, i have a food processer. maybe for an PS3
For a large enough sum, I could be persuaded. Hell, not like I have a soul to worry about.
Gift certificate to Coffee O, perhaps?

(heh heh)
If they give out a George Foreman grill then yes i would...
i have a food processor you give me a church thats giving out aerogardens im there ;)
If religion was that shallow it would match the dumpster-ready condition that all humans would be in if we were not created due to having absolutely no worth.
Hahaha, hilarious!

God will throw back their mockery on them, and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (To and fro). Their similitude is that of a man who kindled a fire; when it lighted all around him, God took away their light and left them in utter darkness. So they could not see. Deaf, dumb, and blind, they will not return .

Why are Macs have slower processor and is faster than Windows?

I am hopefully getting to get an ibook soon and wanted to know why Mac's have a lower amount processor and runs better? Also how would, for example 3.0gHZ and 3.2gHZ change the computer? Does it make it fun faster or something?

    Thanks for your help
Why are Macs have slower processor and is faster than Windows?
I presume you meant a MACbook, not an ibook.

Macs these days *don't* have slower processors, although they used to. They seem to run faster because they have better memory mapping algorithms and IO priorities... Two things that windows XP lacks (although Vista has improved on).

Speed generally means nothing. A 4ghz pentium 4 processor will be beaten by a 2ghz Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processor. Efficiency is what's key. Modern CPU's can do more with every hz (ghz = billions of hz) than older ones could, so they don't need as many hz as older ones did.

As for 3.2 vs 3.0ghz... Nothing. If you're getting a macbook, I'd get around 1.8ghz one. Longer battery life with a slower CPU, and less heat.
Why are Macs have slower processor and is faster than Windows?
Macs just manage info better. It's all in the programming. PC's have to pump up the processor to compete because they aren't programmed as well.
...because Apple got their act together and built a reliable, stable system.
its all in the OS. take those slower windows systems and run Linux on them and theyll run faster....more gHZ means more processing speed so yes...i recommend alienware notebooks... http://alienware.com
There are several reasons, but the main one is how the systems operate. Mac's when started basically only turn on the items they need to run. Windows on start up opens up a whole gaggle of useless programs and leaves the running hidden in the background. A major flaw in the Windows system I think.
they dont they just have a better transitional process

just becouse the computer does a little effect before it starts a program doesnt make it fatster besides that you load your comp with junk if its slowjust wait till that mac is good and loaded down wit junk like your windows machine and well see its the sifting that takes so long and youll know im right soon enugh
Cos windows is crap? Malware, spyware, too many programs available.

Plus there hardware is totally different so can't be compared
Your processing activities will not be any faster on a Mac or under XP/Vista or under Linux, nor I'll bet under CP/M!

Theoretical speeds don't translate directly over to activities. If you are going from 0 to Mac, ok it might be no slower than learning a PC. But if you are going from PC to Mac, expect things to be slow at the start (human operator factors).

Don't spend too much time worrying about %26quot;mine is faster than yours%26quot;, because I bet you a hot i86 PC will blow away any i86 Mac! If your ibook is not using an Intel processor, you are buying into dead Mac technology.
Windows has always been slow. I gobsmacked people in the mid 90's by running the OS/2 2.1 Windows emulator on a PC half the speed everybody else had and it was three times quicker. I wish Bill would let IBM sort out his operating system.

Why is my word processor is doing funky things with spaces?

I use Open Office, and I didn't change any formatting that I know of but right now whenever I hit the space bar after a word, the cursor doesn't move, but the next word i type is a space away. So I inevitably hit space twice because I didn't think I hit it, and then I have two spaces. It's annoying. Does anyone know how to change it back? Thanks so much!
Why is my word processor is doing funky things with spaces?
You should rather check out SSuite Office for a free word processor. It has almost all the features of Word, and looks and works the same. {except for the ribbons}. Their word processor is called WordGraph.

It is only 12 MB in size. Nice and small :) . Their software also don't need to run on Java or .NET, like so many open source software, so it makes their software very small and efficient.

We use CutePDF writer. You can download for free from http://www.cutepdf.com/download.htm

Running the installation file will install a 'printer' on your system. You can then open your document and print just as if you were printing to a paper printer. It will show a dialog box asking where to save the file and what to name it.

Will my computer support this processor?

I currently have a Dell Studio 1737 with an Intel core 2 duo T6400 processor. I use socket P, which is the same as the Intel core 2 extreme QX9300 processor. I know how to change these out. The fastest processor your computer supports is an Intel P4 3.06GHz 533MHz 478pin 512K Northwood CPU w/Hyper-threading OEM. Costs about $250 from www.powerleap.com, don't know if it's cheaper elsewhere.

How to change XP from single to multiple procs?

Is there a process to follow to change a single CPU installation of XP Pro to a Multi-processor installation after installing a new Dual-Core chip? Or does it happen automatically?
How to change XP from single to multiple procs?
With Windows XP and higher, windows handles the change for you, as part of Plug and Play.
How to change XP from single to multiple procs?
Windows XP supports dual core chips. There should be nothing extra you need to do. However, if you discover that you need drivers for the chip, they are available from Intel and AMD but I don't think you will need them as XP is designed to run on multiple core chips.

You might have had to worry about it if it were multiple processors but since it is a single dual core processor there is nothing special you need to do.
According to Microsoft's own Windows XP Comparison Guide, XP Home does not support multiple processors (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/h鈥?/a> only XP Professional does. I believe this also extends to dual-core processors.

Also, multi-processor detection may only occur during XP installation. Simply upgrading the processor may not result in XP automatically detecting it's dual-core. You may have to re-install XP for this to take effect.

I tried to send my teacher some assignments and he said his word processor isn't compatible with docx. My computer runs vista (I'm assuming his is XP). I just need to change them temporarily to send them to him.
How do I change a word program format into something other than docx?
I could rant angrily about how Microsoft switched to a %26quot;free and open%26quot; format right after everybody else figured out DOC, and how they could've just started using an open format that already existed like the OpenDocument one. But I won't.

    1. In Word 2007, click the Office button (the big round button at the top left of the Window) and then click Word Options.

    2. In the Word Options dialog box, choose the Save category from the list on the left.

Click on the down arrow to see the available file formats.

I suggest you go with .DOC

    Good luck!
    Do this:

    1. Click the round Office button in the upper-left corner of the window.

    2. Click Save As-%26gt;Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc).

Try saving your assignments as *.rtf { Rich Text format }.

This format is compatible with any word processor and windows platform. When resaving your documents, simply select the rtf format in the save dialog. Don't worry about the original files, they are still there in docx format.

How long shoud the battery last in a computer proscessor.?

i changed the battery in pc processor about 4 moths ago as i had to keep setting time and date. and it started up with fan running fast, it is doing the same again losing time and date settings. shouldn`t the battery charge up in the processor. is it right to keep having to change every few months. help please.
How long shoud the battery last in a computer proscessor.?
You shouldn't have to change the CMOS battery for a very long time. Some last many years. Make sure that you have the time and date set right in your bios and also have your time in the task bar settings update automatically with a times server.
How long shoud the battery last in a computer proscessor.?
Should last for a couple of years. I'd've thought. The one I had to change wasn't a rechargeable.
the bios battery, the one on the motherboard, should last a few years. can last upto 10 years, and will last longer if you dont switch off your computer from the mains.

you either put the battery in the wrong way, got a dodgy one, or there is a problem with your bios chip on the motherboard.

did you get the same exact battery number??
They're not normally rechargeable but if you bought a rechargeable battery then that's why it's running down. The correct battery should be a Lithium one and should last about 5 or 6 years. It's only purpose is to retain BIOS memory settings so it doesn't get much use.
If you mean the 'button cell' battery, on the mother board. It's only used to power the clock when PC is off.

    Should not be re-charged either.

But should last a few years, the one in my daughters PC has not been replaced yet and the PC is 3 years old.

How many generations from the Canon SD600 till the Canon SD1000?

    hello,

ive been wondering on how to classify Canon SDxxx series in their own perspective generations, like, which generation is the SD600 considered, and would it be a new generation if only one feature was added to the newer model but without any change or upgrade to the processor??

like, how may generations are there from SD600 till SD1000? 1 or 6?

thanks for all answers, wether right or wrong.
How many generations from the Canon SD600 till the Canon SD1000?
All Canon cameras have the Digic image processor inside them. The first SD models obviously had the original Digic processor and then a little later down the line, the Digic II processor was introduced and all new models now have the latest, Digic III processor.

The SD600 was released in 2006 and has the Digic II processor.

The numbering of the SD models can be a little confusing and all over the place, though. For instance, the SD950 IS is a much better model than the SD1000 and SD1100 etc.

I own the SD700 IS (Digic II) and it's definitely better than the SD1000 and a number of other SD models. So, don't be confused by the numbering.

You will find that the SD models with a slightly larger sensor than other models, and also the inclusion of an image stabilizer (IS) is what makes a better model.

Digic II is perfectly fantastic. Digic III is just a slight processor upgrade, that's all. So, you could say that the latest generation of cameras are ones that feature the latest Digic III image processor.

You can check out many of the SD models in the link below....

If a PC game says minimum requirments 2.0 gHZ processor will it not run at all on a 1.8gHZ?

If a PC game says minimum requirments 2.0 gHZ processor will it not run at all on a 1.8gHZ?
    It honestly depends. Sometimes other aspects of the system can make up for a slow processor. But for some games the minimum requirements mean that %26quot;This game won't make this particular computer explode.%26quot;

It's typically true with games that have 'bleeding edge' graphics and other such nonsense that anyone who doesn't touch themselves at night thinking about pixel shaders and has a pool of money cannot possibly meet the 'recommended' specs.

Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. But I'd lean more towards the won't. As sadly computer game manufacturers are a bit deceptive with their requirements. The minimum means it will run, not that it will run to the point where an enjoyable gaming experience can be had.
If a PC game says minimum requirments 2.0 gHZ processor will it not run at all on a 1.8gHZ?
It will run, it may just have some speed issues (like your character moving too slowly to play the game effectively)

Changing video cards and processors in a laptop is just about impossible, one of the many reasons a desktop is soooo much better in my opinion, even in desktops you can't hardly change the processor without changing the motherboard, and you cant change a mobo in a laptop....
It'll run just fine, they always say you need more than you really do.

    Sorry.

Can a celeron processor of a laptop be changed to a centrino or creo with the same laptop? And how?

Laptops in and of themselves are really limited when it comes to later upgrades, you can change the size of the hard drive, install a different optical drive, replace a worn out battery or AC power supply, and possibly add more memory after purchase. But when it comes to the idea of changing a processor or motherboard, it is basically impractical, very expensive, and not something most repair technicians would suggest doing. It isn't just a matter of openning the case, taking off a heatsink, lifting out the processor and installing a new one like you can in a desktop computer. Laptops are for the most part designed to be used the way they are built, and if you want a faster processor later, you will have to purchase a new laptop. I repair computers and laptops for a living, and I can assure you that if a customer asked me to change a processor in a laptop I would explain why it isn't practical or cost effective and suggest they consider purchasing a new laptop.
Can a celeron processor of a laptop be changed to a centrino or creo with the same laptop? And how?
Typically no. I don't know of a single laptop where this can happen.
Can a celeron processor of a laptop be changed to a centrino or creo with the same laptop? And how?
centrino really isnt a processor type, the centrino label is made for laptops with an intel processor, intel motherboard, wireless card, and chipset.

Genuine Windows XP PACK 2 or PACK 3 installation?

Firstly, how many times you can install a Genuine Windows XP Pack 2 or Pack 3 in your PC? Secondly, if you want to change the motherboard or processor in your PC, can you install the same Genuine Windows XP Pack 2 or Pack 3 in your PC? Thirdly, if you will buy another PC, can you install the same Genuine Windows XP Pack 2 or Pack 3?
Genuine Windows XP PACK 2 or PACK 3 installation?
Hi, you can re-install onto the same PC as many times as you wish. However, if you change the motherboard then this will be seen as a different PC and you will then need to check your licence (should be on the packaging) to check if your copy of XP is for more than one PC. If it is for only one PC then you will need to contact MIcrosoft Customer Services and explain the situation so that they can give you a new licence key to use.
Genuine Windows XP PACK 2 or PACK 3 installation?
u can install it on one pc as many times as u can but if u change it u have to look at ur cd cover wheather its for one pc or 3 or 5
You can have it on as many as 5 different PCs.

If you go through more, give Microsoft a call, and they'll likely approve it if you say it's only for personal use if you want to keep it legal.
u can install window any time.

it is not depend upon ur system.

How do i change my graphic card from intel to Radeon?
ok well look i have experience in this.. you can just switch there is nothing to change as long as... you fulfill the pc requirements such as ghz and depending if your motherboard accepts agp pci or pci express.. lets say the graphics card you want is pci express and you have only a pci on your computer, it wont be compatible and you will have to change your mother board which really isnt worth it. just make sure the pins of the graphics card fit in your computer, you have the ram and ghz it needs and the processor and the right windows, download drivers and update patches from the website and you will be fine, the brand dosent matter, i had an ati and switched to nvidia without a problem.. Good Luck!

You wanted the Q9650 with 12MB cache? You'll only really notice a big difference between the two when rendering DVD movies, playing the most demanding games or loading a wack of programs up at the same time. You'll be happy with the Q9400.

However, check the price difference. Sometimes upgrades are free/cheap. I mean, alot cheaper than upgrading the CPU later on.

I don't like that video card, but it will play The Sims no problem.
HELP PLEASE ! How will i do with this processor?
Well your processor is garbage, but adequate for most menial tasks.

It's your GPU that should concern you. 256MB is a paltry amount for gaming. You should be able to handle your kiddy-games just fine, but don't try anything new or graphically impressive with that ATI GPU.

Why on Earth did you purchase a Dell? Next time, do some research before wasting your money.
You should be able to play games AND music. All you realy need is a CPU of 2500 mHz or more. But that system should work fine.
I would return the Dell, as repairman of computers, I see more Dell in my shop compared to other brands. They not %26quot;old%26quot;, used about 5 to 8 months old. Most cases it is the motherboard went south. When you work on a Dell, the case is poorly cleanup or sharp edges. You have to careful or you will cut hands or fingers.

I would wait until you purchase your computer because you will get a coupon for free copy of Windows 7. I been using W7 now for 5 months. It is better than Vista and fast as XP. W7 runs any program under Vista or XP. Would you believe W7 will run old DOS programs and does not run under Vista.

As for brand, look at Acer, other cheap computer but does not have the problems of Dell. HP or Compaq is good source in %26quot;Mid%26quot; price range. Your Sony %26amp; Toshiba are high price, they are built like tank.

Would you believe most of motherboards for desktop or laptop are made in factory in China. This includes HP, Acer, Asus, and other brands.

For a pretty inside case as for tech support is Toshiba. But this don't make the machine work faster.

My husband and i are both students, so we'll be using the computer for homework, i'm not much of a gamer, however ii cannot live without my Sims (Sims 3 preordered YAY) and we have a lot of music like nearly 20GB of music in Itunes.
HELP PLEASE ! How will i do with this processor?
the performance difference will depends on what you do with the computer. unless your homework involves 3D modelling, video editing, heavy number crunching, or professional photo editing, content creation, or anything else extremely demanding, even the processor you got packs a lot more computing power than you need.
HELP PLEASE ! How will i do with this processor?
2.6 gigaherts is more then enough computing power then you will ever need.
    Its going to work fine=)

at least its better than my computer=P

Would changing the fan speed hurt anything?

I have a 7900GS and a 3.06ghz celeron processor. I want to change the fan speed of my 7900GS through nTune (I changed it and it got a tad louder, but noise doesn't matter to me). Right now it's factory set at 23.75%. Would it hurt if I changed it to 40%? 50%? How high can I go without having it die?

Notes: I only have one 4-pin molex in the PCI-E power cable, which has 2 4-pin molex connectors.
Would changing the fan speed hurt anything?
speeding up your fan more than 10% will cause it to burn out very qiuckly. slowing it down will let your chip overheat and fry. I suggest leaving it alone.
Would changing the fan speed hurt anything?
No point keep increasing the fan speed, it just shorten the fan life, and it is not speeding up the computer.

If your PC is having hang and auto-shutdown problem and you suspect is due to heat, I suggest you add a 12Volt fan, most PC have space for this extra fan,
Over clocking are we? 1) First remove your fan from the card(usually four screws, and use a hand screw driver those screws are week! There are 4 little springs with the screws) 2) apply arctic silver thermal grease to all the chips 3) Then wait a few minutes and reinstall the fan and card. The cheap grease(if any)they put on their cards helps identify over clocked cards. 4) center a hole directly over the card in the side panel and put a fan there 5)your card throttles your fan speed up as it increases in usage so 10% or 15% will suffice with grease and another fan helping and you dont have to worry about the fan taking a dump and frying your card

    Computer processor help.?

I'm not computer stupid or anything, but i was wondering how my processor speed can be changed on my laptop. I've currently got 1.8ghz, but i wasn't sure if theres anyway to change the speed, or if it'd just require a new processor, aka computer?

    Computer processor help.?
You might be able to change the speed. Have you tried over clocking the CPU? You do this by entering the Bios at start up, you will have to hold a certain key like F1 or something, it will tell you. When you get into the Bios you will normally have a blue, or black screen. You will know what I am talking about when you see it. Go to your processor and fiddle around with it. By luck you might be able to over clock it and get like 2.3 Ghz. Be careful tho it might over heat. If you cant over clock it then see what type of processor you have. If it is for say an Intel Pentium 3 then go rip open a old computer that has a bigger processor(same type more Ghz), pop it out and plug it into you laptop. It will take a bit of fiddling around but it is very handy for a %26quot;cost effective person%26quot;.
    Computer processor help.?
The processors speed is not changeable, you would have to get a new one.
Changing it will be a problem, there are so many factors that effect compatibility. You could try over-clocking, which will really heat up your pc if the cooling system is bad, but laptops have limited upgrading capabilities. If you want something faster. Look at gaming laptops or desktops.
Althou a few allow you to most laptops wont let you overclock the cpu. If you go into the bios and the clock speeds are greyed out you can't overclock it. Should be a cpu support page for your laptop which will tell you what cpus you can run and what bios you will need to run them with. If you opt to replace your cpu with one on the list make sure you have the bios to support the new cpu and, if you don't, flash the bios with your present cpu in before you put the new one in. Flashing the bios does pose a risk and can ruin the motherboard if the bios is improperly flashed or you have a power interruption during the flashing process. If you are concerned about flashing the bios you may want to just go with the fastest cpu your current bios can support.

How to get to boot/startup menu?

I want to get into my computer's startup menu (the menu you get to by pressing f10 as you power it on) but my computer's startup method skips it for some reason. i turn my computer on, the monitor acts as if nothing is connected and goes black, then the desktop comes up like nothing is wrong. I'm trying to change the graphics processor it uses but I cant do that without getting into that menu.

Long story short: is there a way to force my computer's boot-up process to allow the start-up menu? or is there another way to get to it. I desperately need some help!

    thanks in advance
How to get to boot/startup menu?
Well the start-up menu default is f8 not f10 if your on about the bios.. You could try tab or delete key.

My laptop processor used to run a 2.20 GHz now it runs at 2.19GHz how do i change it back?

That is completely normal. It won't always read exactly 2.2ghz. A very very minute change could cause you to lose that much. That's 10mhz not 100. 2.2ghz=2200mhz so 2200 - 2190 = 10. And more than likely since it is a laptop, you will have absolutely no options for overclocking anyway.
My laptop processor used to run a 2.20 GHz now it runs at 2.19GHz how do i change it back?
You could overclock it...but then you may aswell go to 3ghz...that change will not make a difference and i bet you sometimes it will run at 2.21ghz
My laptop processor used to run a 2.20 GHz now it runs at 2.19GHz how do i change it back?
wow, your laptop went down 100MHz...is it still like that? processors don't just go down clock speeds, if it continues to go down, the transistors in your processor are failing, get your money back and get a new laptop, this is factory faulty if it goes down like that...
Thats not going to make a huge difference on your performance band of 100MHz. If you are worried so much on 100mhz processing speed, why not Overclock it?

How to reduce heat generated by a laptop?

I currently have a laptop with an i7 and a GTX 260M graphics card... and wow does it ever generate heat... like keep a room toasty in the arctic kind of heat.

How can I reduce it? I've already changed the %26quot;Max processor state%26quot; to 20% and the %26quot;Min processor state%26quot; to 5%... does the graphics card generate heat even when I'm just checking e-mails? If so, how can I disable it?
How to reduce heat generated by a laptop?
There are laptop cooling pads that work very well. I have one for my laptop and i got it for quite cheap.
How to reduce heat generated by a laptop?
You can try buying a cooling pad for a laptop or you can just use fans to cool it down
Your best bet is to turn it off.

Cheap computers and crummy operating systems tend to suck... juice and turn it into heat.
    put some ice on it
Yes your graphics card generates heat when you're just checking email. You could try to create two different graphics settings, one for regular use, one for gaming/multimedia.
Buy a cooling pad it really hellps
    Is it an HP?

  • Can I upgrade my core2duo CPU to quad core and how?

I have a core2duo CPU and I was wondering whether I can upgrade to quad core and how? I usually use it to play games like need for speed etc. My CPU specs are:

    2gb RAM

    Motherboard:Asus P5KPL

If I can do it, how can I do it? Do I just buy a quad core processor and jus change it?

And also which do you recommend? quad core or core2extreme?
Can I upgrade my core2duo CPU to quad core and how?
the ASUS website says that the mobo supports new 45nm prcessors so it should support the new core 2 quad. but maybe u need a BIOS upgrade to do that... check the website for more details.

    abt core2quad and core2extreme...

core 2 extreme are actually high end versions of core 2 duos and core 2 quads. in my opinion a quad core core 2 extreme is the best...
Can I upgrade my core2duo CPU to quad core and how?
go to a person who knows the parts and then ask them to install the processor..... i prefer to install the quad
Your motherboard does support both Quad core and extreme, just take it to an expert........
before you do make sure your mobo will take it as an upgrade or your up for a new mobo as well, chek asus site for mobo and was cpu's it supports
If your MB supports it, it is really a matter of remvoing the heat sink %26amp; old cpu plug in the new cpu and put new fan/heatsink on the CPU.

Just be careful of static electricity. touch the case and keep touching it while handling the new CPU.

Remove the old fan IMMEDIATELY after turning off hte machine after it's been on a few minutes. It will make removal easer. Once cool, the old heat-sink compound will probably %26quot;harden%26quot; and %26quot;cement%26quot; the heatsink to the CPU... While it's warm, it softens a little, making it easier to remove.
hi there no u cant just install u must change ur MB to DQ2%26amp;quad that support quad processors from intel cause ur mother bord cant handle that power of processor it will shut down ur pc when you lunch any new game that need to much VGA power
    Yup! Any day!
Hi there, the ASUS P5KPL supports core 2 quad so its just a matter of taking the old cpu off and installing the new one.

Uninstall the h/s and fan quickly so the thermal paste wont stick, then install the new cpu and put the fan back on.

I think you need to apply thermal paste every time you take the cpu apart from the heatsink.

How to change a graphics chip?

I would wait for or get drivers that will be compatible when they come available. You can upgrade the laptop to a better card though, like the one on this website.

  • Fast computer went slow, how can i make it fast again?

it was already fast. just for computing. not about running fast internet connection or anything. it has windows xp. 512 memory. fast processor forgot exactly which. 3 4 or whatever was good last year anyway it was working fine. i think a virus got it? i tried a restore, didnt help. tried the defragment. didnt work. changed some settings for best performance. i know about computers. i can open up computers and know what everything is but never came across this problem before. im not sure if adding more memory could fix the problem unless the memory it has is somehow no good? do i need to change out the processor maybe with a new one? it takes maybe 15 minutes to start up now, and before it decided to become slow, it was already up and running after i pushed the on button. anyone know? fast computer went slow. verrrry slow. thanks
Fast computer went slow, how can i make it fast again?
you might have some sort of spyware or a virus. try running anti-spyware programs and im sure you will find a lotta stuff. What I would do is back everything on a dvd or a ext hard drive and format the computer, that would save you a lot of time.
Fast computer went slow, how can i make it fast again?
Delete everything you don't need. And use the defrag thing.
Get some more RAM - always get 1GB of you can afford it.

Try this before you start spending money on any hardware other than RAM

    http://www.lifehacker.com/software/windo…

    ///
    Dephrag it!

    Start%26gt;accesories%26gt;system tools%26gt;Disk Dephragmenter
Without beinbg able to inspect it, I would suspect either malware or a hardware problem.

Check to be sure all the fans are spinning at full speed.

Make sure none of the BIOS settings were changed.

Run your Antivirus and Antispyware scans in Safe Mode.

Many times the scans are ineffective in normal mode.
Viruses/Spyware could be problematic. Use a good scanner, like McAfee, to flush it all out.
sounds like you have a virus or have a lot of applications running at the same time....if there is a lot of icons on the bottom right side of your computer then I would get rid of them so they are not running in the background....just click start then run and type msconfig then go to the startup tab and check all the programs you recognize. then restart your computer. IUf this doesnt help then I would try reformatting your hardrive.
Add more memory, and if this dosen't work download something like AVG Free Editon and scan for viruses and spyware. Also, try removing some startup entires to speed up the computer during starting.

Go to the top of this screen%26gt;Tools%26gt;Internet Options%26gt;Delete cookies, files and history

Maybe you should just buy a new computer or take your computer to a PC shop.

Hope you get it fixed cause i know how aggravating it is to have a computer to be messed up.
If you download a lot of things then your computer will probably go slow. Try cleaning out your computer of things you don't need.

    2. AVG Anti-Virus - Use this, it is better than Norton and any of the virus softwares you pay for, this one is FREE! (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-vir…

    3. Crap Cleaner - Simply deletes crap like internet history and cookies and frees up loads of space. (http://www.ccleaner.com/)

    Hope this helps!
Did you try checking if there's some SpyWare on it?? Sometimes that can slow down a computer. I took my computer in for repair once and that's what caused all of my problems. I used a combination of Anti-Virus software and Ad-Aware. I also use PC Optimize from pcpitstop.com, they have a program which checks what could be slowing down your program and lets you know how to fix it.
    defragment it
try running an anti virus program, I use AVG free and see if there is a virus. you should get a ant- spyware also. I use Adaware from Lavasoft.com
all these answers not one mentions a service at startup..

start menu - run, type 'msconfig' look at the startup tab - you may recognize some - use a search engine to figure out the rest.

uncheck what is not needed then run a program that will clean up dead ends in the registry - I have been using Registry Mechanic with excellent results.
do a disk clean up - start%26gt;all programs%26gt;accessories%26gt;disk clean up

the clean out the start-up - start%26gt;run%26gt;%26quot;msconfig%26quot;%26gt;start up uncheck all unessesary items things like realplayer AOL Quicktime

make sure you leave your firewall and anti-virus checked

    click apply%26gt;ok%26gt; then reboot
    simple answer

    1. backup all data

    2. delete all partions on all hardrives

    3. reset bios to default

    4. change your boot preferences in advanced bios features so the your cd/dvd drive is the first boot source

    5. load a new copy of windows

    6. restore all antivirus programs

    7. load the rest of the other stuff that you had but make sure to quarentine it first
First, run %26quot;msconfig%26quot; and click on %26quot;start up%26quot; then unchecked everything that is not really necessary (keep the firewall and anti-virus software-off course!) Restart the computer and notice if it starts up any faster.

If your computer still has a memory slot available and can accept more memory, then 1GB definitely help.

Remember do not let any program other than firewall and anti-virus runs in the background, because it will use system memory and processor power, therefore slowing down the computer.

Kaspersky anti-virus is the best. You can go to Kaspersky.com to down load a trail version good for 30 days (or you can use their on-line scanner) For a firewall, Zone Arlam is wonderful.
Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

all i have on p.c is word processor wondering if any way of changing it so i can load up a document on a website?
How do you change a wps file to a .doc or dox x or a txt or a rtf file?
Currently you can't save it as a .docx, but you can save it as a .doc or a .rtf by going to file%26gt;save as and selecting an option in the drop down menu below the box where you type the file's name. If you are transferring it to another computer that only has Word then make sure you do this before you transfer it, as although Works can read Word, it doesn't work the other way around!

Removing old heatsink from AMD processor?

I've a AMD athlon X2 based system. I want to change the heat sink for the processor. At present there's a stock heatsink and fan working. How do i remove it? Do i have to remove the cpu too or just the heat sink? I did not install the cpu initially but other than that i assembled the whole system on my own.
Removing old heatsink from AMD processor?
If all you are doing is changing the heat sink/fan then you just need to remove the old heat sink and replace it with your new one.

Unclamp the heat sink, then gently rock it back and forth, to loosen the heat sink from the cpu. Hopefully, it will come loose without any problem. Once you have it clear, take some rubbing alcohol and gently wipe the surface of the cpu clean. Remove all the old thermal paste.

If you purhased a new heat sink with fan, you probably already have some thermal paste on the bottom of the heat sink. place the heat sink/fan on the cpu, make sure it is lined up squarely, and then hook the clamps on both side, and then pull the lever all the way over , to lock it in place.

There should be instructions included with your heatsink/fan .

Is it possible to replace AMD dual core processor with AMD quad core processor?

okay, i am a computer noob....and i dont know how to build a computer ...and i recently bought a new camcorder which record to flat bed memoryand save into AVCHD file , and my computer cant seem running smooth and it pain the *** when render AVCHD files.....So my question today is....is it possible to replace my 4 year old AMD dual core 2.8ghz with AMD quad core processor with out changing anything ? I meant mother board or anything else have to replace to go with a new processor? do i have to check the mother board able to match with new quad core processor?

    thank you___k
Is it possible to replace AMD dual core processor with AMD quad core processor?
You will have to check with the manufacturer of your motherboard. If it is new enough it may support the quad core.
Is it possible to replace AMD dual core processor with AMD quad core processor?
If they have the same socket type, then yes.
You need to check the CPU Support List of your motherboard.
Go to www.newegg.com for forums there would be your best bet. But from what I know you can replace it as long as the processor works with the motherboard and you can ask that on those forums.
It MAY be possible...I have to assume at 4 years old your processor is an AM2....IF you have a GOOD mother board its possible to update the BIOS to use the power of an AM3 quad core (or an AM2+) you would have to go to your mother board manufactures website to see if they have the latest BIOS updates that will allow you to use quad core. Caution! updating a BIOS (%26quot;flashing%26quot;) is tricky and if done wrong, could screw up your mother board!

How do i change a list i made in ms word processor to alphabetical ?

Microsoft Word 2003 can sort text, such as a list of peoples' names, class names, names of inventory items, etc. However, the option is somewhat hidden under the %26quot;Sort%26quot; menu.

To sort text, such as a list of names:

    1. Highlight the list of names with your mouse.

    2. Choose %26quot;Table%26quot; then %26quot;Sort%26quot;.

    3. The %26quot;Sort Text%26quot; dialog box should appear. Most likely you will not have to make any changes. However, if you desire, click the %26quot;Descending%26quot; radio button to sort the text in descending order.

    4. Click %26quot;OK%26quot; to close the dialog box.
How do i change a list i made in ms word processor to alphabetical ?
If each of the items to be sorted is in a paragraph by itself, do this:

In Word versions prior to Word 2007:

    1. Select all the paragraphs.

    2. Click the Table-%26gt;Sort menu item (trust me!).

    3. Set up the sort the way you want.

    4. Click OK.

    In Word 2007:

    1. Select all the paragraphs.

    2. Click the Home tab on the ribbon.

    3. In the Paragraph group, click the AZ鈫?button.

    Hope that helps.
How do i change a list i made in ms word processor to alphabetical ?
If you're using Word 2007 then the option is %26quot;hidden in plain view%26quot;, as these things often are.

Select your list and on the Home tab in the Paragraph group there is a button that has an A on top of a Z next to an arrow pointing downwards. Press the button and the Sort Text dialog will appear...
you can't. if the list is short enough i suggest re-typing them in alphabetical order, if not then, it would probaly be best just to ignore it, unless you really need to alphabetically order it, where you can only re-do the whole list.
Select (highlight) the list then go to the Table menu and choose Sort. Then you can choose ascending or descending. It works even if the list is not in a table.

How do I change to VGA resolution?
Like the rest said - ensure that you're running at at least 640x480 with 256 (8-bit) colors. It seems like you're running at some other resolution with just 16 colors, if you can't get it any higher than that you should probably install graphics drivers for your graphics card. If you don't have the special drivers for your card, then you won't be able to change the video mode to what is required, and they'll be set on minimum.

How can i change the clock speed on my computer?

I have a dell optiplex ggx240 with a p4 processor i usually can get to change the clock speed but for some reason i can figure it on a dell since they have soly thre own software and everyting on there computers. Its a p4 running currently at 1.5 i wanna get it to at least 1.8 - 2.0 if possible someone hlep me out ehre im in school for computers but havent gotten that far in depth with them yet all help given is greatly apperciated
How can i change the clock speed on my computer?
So you are saying you want to OVERclock your computer?

Well you can't with a Dell, they don't allow overclocking. Even if it were possible, an optiplex has no airflow and would fry.

Get a real motherboard, real case, and then try.
How can i change the clock speed on my computer?
Well,I've been in the computers field for the past 10 years, but i never hear a case like yours. The only way to change the clock speed of your computer is to change your processor. You cannot change the clock speed of your processor. How ever you can re-program your processor using low level debugging softwares and Microsoft Assembly Language, but you need to be an expert in computer architechture. Even then you cannot change your processor's clock speed.
You can do it, however is very dangerous. The processor is designed to work at one speed, and if you overclock that speed its expected life will be shorter because of the heating irradiated. Before change the clocking i will suggest to get a new special cooling fan and replace the original. Then you can play with it going to the bios and changing the clock.

  • Changing your mainboard and processor?

i'm still trying to learn about computers and how they work, so lets say that i found a good deal on a computer but the mainboard only accepts a dual core processor..... what do i need to know and or find out before i log on to newegg and get a motherboard that will handle a quad core?
    Changing your mainboard and processor?
Are you talking about a build-it-yourself kit or a brand-name computer?

For custom machines, you can just pick a motherboard which supports the processor type you want. Many merchants who sell systems like that will often let you specify the changes you want before it's built (which is the way to go)

On brand-name computers like Dell, Sony, HP, Compaq etc- switching the motherboard invalidates the factory-installed operating system. You'd have to buy another retail copy of Windows to install because the preinstalled OEM versions are tied to the original motherboard. If that changes, their restore programs or CDs no longer work.

What applications do you need the computer for? Quads offer big advantages for video editing, 3D design/animation work and heavy mutlitasking, but not for gaming. The 3Ghz dual-core E8400 is much faster at gaming than the 2.4Ghz quad-core Q6600 and actually costs a little less.

The only info you'll really need is the existing computer's physical case form factor (either full ATX, Micro ATX etc) Just log onto Newegg, choose whether you're going Intel or AMD, and start searching motherboards of the appropriate type (Socket 775, for example) and make a note of which processor types are supported.

Be sure to read the customer reviews of motherboards you're considering.
    Changing your mainboard and processor?
You need to know the form factor of the motherboard and the case. Its best to check the manufacturers website to get the exact dimensions of the case just to see if your going to have enough room for power supply unit, fans, hard drives and your add on cards. You want enough room to work in there and allow for some decent airflow.

You need to make sure that your power supply gives enough output for what you need, is there enough RAM slots, PCI express if you want it, does it use SATA or PATA connections for the drives.

Try finding reviews for boards your interested in on sites like toms hardware to give you and idea of what they perform like.

Then, select WordPad from the list (if it isn't in the list, click Browse and find it.)

    Then check the box that says: %26quot;Always use the selected program to open this kind of file%26quot;

    Click OK and you're done.
    Default word processor?
    Right click on the document you want to open, then choose %26quot;open with%26quot;

    Browse to c:\windows\system32\write.exe
    Notepad...rubbish. Blasphemy!
If you know that your documents were created in note pad, you should click on word pad from your asserories in all programs. Once you are there, make sure the file type is in the text mode than retrieve the document. When you are finish with the document, save it.

Remember you have to select the write program when creating text files. Notepad isn't a wordprocessor file. This program is designed for notations. Normally, programmers use this program for documentation.

Wordpad is just a mini wordprocessor file, It normally designed to be use for screen shots. But if you are comfortable of using this program then select it from all programs in accessories.

Just remember always create your documents in the appropriate programs.

How to convert the keyboard to write with the proper accents for another language ?

I need a little help I'm trying to write in another language on the word processor but the punctuation and accents, it keeps on changing words into English is there a way to change language on word processor.

    Thank you in advance.
How to convert the keyboard to write with the proper accents for another language ?
You can turn autocorrecting and autoformatting off so it won't change the words. I think you can find the options in the Tools menu depending on which version you're using. If you can't find them, search for those commands in the Help menu.

    I have a p4 2gb ram 3 ghz and nvidia geforce 8600gt video card ?

You might need more than just a new CPU depending on your current motherboard make/model. A Core 2 CPU is a Socket 775 package (the configuration of the pins on the CPU chip, which has to fit the CPU socket on the motherboard) so you need to figure out if your motherboard is a 775 or not. Run this program:

    http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_146.z鈥?/a>

Look for the line %26quot;Package%26quot; and see if it says about your current CPU. If it is a 775 then you research your motherboard to see what CPUs it can accept: Run CPU-Z (link above) go to the %26quot;mainboard%26quot; tab in it's main window, and google your motherboard by it's Manufacturer and Model.

If your current motherboard is not a 775 then you will probably need a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM and possibly a new video card depending on what you pick for a motherboard.

go to newegg.com and secondly figure out ur motherboard, cuz u can only upgrade processor if it works with the mother board, or ull have to upgrade both
that would depend if your motherboard supports it. witch i do not think it would. New motherboard $80 and new duo processor at 2.4ghx about $140
1: Look up your motherboard to make sure it can handle a Core2Duo. This might require you to crack the case and look for a model # on the system board or if this was a system you purchases from a dealer, look it up on the manufacturer's site.

#2: Check out NewEgg.com for the list of current Core2Duo processors and their prices.
    app. $100.00
First, you need to know if your mobo can support one. As for a CPU itself, it can cost $100-$200.
if its an old computer made for p4 you will most likely need a new mother board hense new ram but can keep the graphic card if its PCI
