You don't want to design your microprocessor, trust me.
You want to do one of two things.
1. program an existing a microcontroller (such as an Arduino board) to do what you want.
2.Build a logic state machine. That could be rendered as code on a microcontroller, a Programmable Logic Array, actual logic chips, or my favorite, an EPROM which basically hold a table relating the input states (address) to the particular output states for each input instance (data)

I have an HP pavilion DV6000 notebook, and it has an amd processor, the laptop its self is about 3 months old. but I want an intel core 2 duo processor in it, along with a good video card. So how much would it cost to have them give me an intel motherboard with a new video card, and install it themselves?

I am hopefully getting to get an ibook soon and wanted to know why Mac's have a lower amount processor and runs better? Also how would, for example 3.0gHZ and 3.2gHZ change the computer? Does it make it fun faster or something?

Macs these days *don't* have slower processors, although they used to. They seem to run faster because they have better memory mapping algorithms and IO priorities... Two things that windows XP lacks (although Vista has improved on).
Speed generally means nothing. A 4ghz pentium 4 processor will be beaten by a 2ghz Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processor. Efficiency is what's key. Modern CPU's can do more with every hz (ghz = billions of hz) than older ones could, so they don't need as many hz as older ones did.
As for 3.2 vs 3.0ghz... Nothing. If you're getting a macbook, I'd get around 1.8ghz one. Longer battery life with a slower CPU, and less heat.

I use Open Office, and I didn't change any formatting that I know of but right now whenever I hit the space bar after a word, the cursor doesn't move, but the next word i type is a space away. So I inevitably hit space twice because I didn't think I hit it, and then I have two spaces. It's annoying. Does anyone know how to change it back? Thanks so much!

I have just got the English language (UK) version of Windows Vista, and have been trying to install the foreign language dictionaries to use on Microsoft Works Word Processor because I do work in English, French and Spanish. Should not be re-charged either.
But should last a few years, the one in my daughters PC has not been replaced yet and the PC is 3 years old.

ive been wondering on how to classify Canon SDxxx series in their own perspective generations, like, which generation is the SD600 considered, and would it be a new generation if only one feature was added to the newer model but without any change or upgrade to the processor??

All Canon cameras have the Digic image processor inside them. The first SD models obviously had the original Digic processor and then a little later down the line, the Digic II processor was introduced and all new models now have the latest, Digic III processor.
The SD600 was released in 2006 and has the Digic II processor.
The numbering of the SD models can be a little confusing and all over the place, though. For instance, the SD950 IS is a much better model than the SD1000 and SD1100 etc.
I own the SD700 IS (Digic II) and it's definitely better than the SD1000 and a number of other SD models. So, don't be confused by the numbering.
You will find that the SD models with a slightly larger sensor than other models, and also the inclusion of an image stabilizer (IS) is what makes a better model.
Digic II is perfectly fantastic. Digic III is just a slight processor upgrade, that's all. So, you could say that the latest generation of cameras are ones that feature the latest Digic III image processor.

It honestly depends. Sometimes other aspects of the system can make up for a slow processor. But for some games the minimum requirements mean that %26quot;This game won't make this particular computer explode.%26quot;
It's typically true with games that have 'bleeding edge' graphics and other such nonsense that anyone who doesn't touch themselves at night thinking about pixel shaders and has a pool of money cannot possibly meet the 'recommended' specs.
Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. But I'd lean more towards the won't. As sadly computer game manufacturers are a bit deceptive with their requirements. The minimum means it will run, not that it will run to the point where an enjoyable gaming experience can be had.

Laptops in and of themselves are really limited when it comes to later upgrades, you can change the size of the hard drive, install a different optical drive, replace a worn out battery or AC power supply, and possibly add more memory after purchase. But when it comes to the idea of changing a processor or motherboard, it is basically impractical, very expensive, and not something most repair technicians would suggest doing. It isn't just a matter of openning the case, taking off a heatsink, lifting out the processor and installing a new one like you can in a desktop computer. Laptops are for the most part designed to be used the way they are built, and if you want a faster processor later, you will have to purchase a new laptop. I repair computers and laptops for a living, and I can assure you that if a customer asked me to change a processor in a laptop I would explain why it isn't practical or cost effective and suggest they consider purchasing a new laptop.

ok well look i have experience in this.. you can just switch there is nothing to change as long as... you fulfill the pc requirements such as ghz and depending if your motherboard accepts agp pci or pci express.. lets say the graphics card you want is pci express and you have only a pci on your computer, it wont be compatible and you will have to change your mother board which really isnt worth it. just make sure the pins of the graphics card fit in your computer, you have the ram and ghz it needs and the processor and the right windows, download drivers and update patches from the website and you will be fine, the brand dosent matter, i had an ati and switched to nvidia without a problem.. ok well look i have experience in this.. you can just switch there is nothing to change as long as... you fulfill the pc requirements such as ghz and depending if your motherboard accepts agp pci or pci express.. lets say the graphics card you want is pci express and you have only a pci on your computer, it wont be compatible and you will have to change your mother board which really isnt worth it. just make sure the pins of the graphics card fit in your computer, you have the ram and ghz it needs and the processor and the right windows, download drivers and update patches from the website and you will be fine, the brand dosent matter, i had an ati and switched to nvidia without a problem.. I just ordered a Studio desktop from dell, then when i was checking my shipping status i noticed i picked the wrong one i wanted the 12 MB 3.00 processor, i tried to change it but DELL wouldn't let me ... they said i'd have to wait to recieve my product and then send it back for the upgrade. BUUUT i don't really want to send it back .. so how wil i do with this one ?

You wanted the Q9650 with 12MB cache? You'll only really notice a big difference between the two when rendering DVD movies, playing the most demanding games or loading a wack of programs up at the same time. You'll be happy with the Q9400.
However, check the price difference. Sometimes upgrades are free/cheap. I mean, alot cheaper than upgrading the CPU later on.
I don't like that video card, but it will play The Sims no problem.

Most cases it is the motherboard went south. When you work on a Dell, the case is poorly cleanup or sharp edges. You have to careful or you will cut hands or fingers.
I would wait until you purchase your computer because you will get a coupon for free copy of Windows 7. I been using W7 now for 5 months. It is better than Vista and fast as XP. W7 runs any program under Vista or XP. Would you believe W7 will run old DOS programs and does not run under Vista.
As for brand, look at Acer, other cheap computer but does not have the problems of Dell. HP or Compaq is good source in %26quot;Mid%26quot; price range. Your Sony %26amp; Toshiba are high price, they are built like tank.
Would you believe most of motherboards for desktop or laptop are made in factory in China. This includes HP, Acer, Asus, and other brands.
For a pretty inside case as for tech support is Toshiba. But this don't make the machine work faster.

the performance difference will depends on what you do with the computer. unless your homework involves 3D modelling, video editing, heavy number crunching, or professional photo editing, content creation, or anything else extremely demanding, even the processor you got packs a lot more computing power than you need.

My husband and i are both students, so we'll be using the computer for homework, i'm not much of a gamer, however ii cannot live without my Sims (Sims 3 preordered YAY) and we have a lot of music like nearly 20GB of music in Itunes.

the performance difference will depends on what you do with the computer. unless your homework involves 3D modelling, video editing, heavy number crunching, or professional photo editing, content creation, or anything else extremely demanding, even the processor you got packs a lot more computing power than you need.

Would changing the fan speed hurt anything?
I have a 7900GS and a 3.06ghz celeron processor. I want to change the fan speed of my 7900GS through nTune (I changed it and it got a tad louder, but noise doesn't matter to me). Right now it's factory set at 23.75%. Would it hurt if I changed it to 40%? 50%? How high can I go without having it die?
Notes: I only have one 4-pin molex in the PCI-E power cable, which has 2 4-pin molex connectors.

I'm not computer stupid or anything, but i was wondering how my processor speed can be changed on my laptop. I've currently got 1.8ghz, but i wasn't sure if theres anyway to change the speed, or if it'd just require a new processor, aka computer?

When you get into the Bios you will normally have a blue, or black screen. You will know what I am talking about when you see it. Go to your processor and fiddle around with it. By luck you might be able to over clock it and get like 2.3 Ghz. Be careful tho it might over heat. If you cant over clock it then see what type of processor you have. If it is for say an Intel Pentium 3 then go rip open a old computer that has a bigger processor(same type more Ghz), pop it out and plug it into you laptop. It will take a bit of fiddling around but it is very handy for a %26quot;cost effective person%26quot;.

How to get to boot/startup menu?
I want to get into my computer's startup menu (the menu you get to by pressing f10 as you power it on) but my computer's startup method skips it for some reason. i turn my computer on, the monitor acts as if nothing is connected and goes black, then the desktop comes up like nothing is wrong. I'm trying to change the graphics processor it uses but I cant do that without getting into that menu.
Long story short: is there a way to force my computer's boot-up process to allow the start-up menu? or is there another way to get to it. I desperately need some help!

Each time i make a new paragraph it changes the size back from 12 to 10. i want it on 10, and each new blank document has page margins that i dont want. does anyone know how to change the defaults of that program? i looked and couldnt find anything. i really need answers by 4:00 on the 22nd (tomorrow) for my history essay.

That is completely normal. It won't always read exactly 2.2ghz. A very very minute change could cause you to lose that much. That's 10mhz not 100. 2.2ghz=2200mhz so 2200 - 2190 = 10. And more than likely since it is a laptop, you will have absolutely no options for overclocking anyway.

wow, your laptop went down 100MHz...is it still like that? processors don't just go down clock speeds, if it continues to go down, the transistors in your processor are failing, get your money back and get a new laptop, this is factory faulty if it goes down like that...

Fast computer went slow, how can i make it fast again?
it was already fast. just for computing. not about running fast internet connection or anything. it has windows xp. 512 memory. fast processor forgot exactly which. 3 4 or whatever was good last year anyway it was working fine. i think a virus got it? i tried a restore, didnt help. tried the defragment. didnt work. changed some settings for best performance. i know about computers. i can open up computers and know what everything is but never came across this problem before. im not sure if adding more memory could fix the problem unless the memory it has is somehow no good? do i need to change out the processor maybe with a new one? it takes maybe 15 minutes to start up now, and before it decided to become slow, it was already up and running after i pushed the on button. anyone know? fast computer went slow. verrrry slow. thanks

you might have some sort of spyware or a virus. try running anti-spyware programs and im sure you will find a lotta stuff. What I would do is back everything on a dvd or a ext hard drive and format the computer, that would save you a lot of time.

Without beinbg able to inspect it, I would suspect either malware or a hardware problem.
Check to be sure all the fans are spinning at full speed.
Make sure none of the BIOS settings were changed.
Run your Antivirus and Antispyware scans in Safe Mode.
Many times the scans are ineffective in normal mode.
Viruses/Spyware could be problematic. Use a good scanner, like McAfee, to flush it all out.
sounds like you have a virus or have a lot of applications running at the same time....if there is a lot of icons on the bottom right side of your computer then I would get rid of them so they are not running in the background....just click start then run and type msconfig then go to the startup tab and check all the programs you recognize. then restart your computer. IUf this doesnt help then I would try reformatting your hardrive.
Add more memory, and if this dosen't work download something like AVG Free Editon and scan for viruses and spyware. Also, try removing some startup entires to speed up the computer during starting.

Did you try checking if there's some SpyWare on it?? Sometimes that can slow down a computer. I took my computer in for repair once and that's what caused all of my problems. I used a combination of Anti-Virus software and Ad-Aware. I also use PC Optimize from pcpitstop.com, they have a program which checks what could be slowing down your program and lets you know how to fix it.

Check to be sure all the fans are spinning at full speed.
Make sure none of the BIOS settings were changed.

Viruses/Spyware could be problematic. Use a good scanner, like McAfee, to flush it all out.
sounds like you have a virus or have a lot of applications running at the same time....if there is a lot of icons on the bottom right side of your computer then I would get rid of them so they are not running in the background....just click start then run and type msconfig then go to the startup tab and check all the programs you recognize. then restart your computer. Did you try checking if there's some SpyWare on it?? Sometimes that can slow down a computer. I took my computer in for repair once and that's what caused all of my problems. I used a combination of Anti-Virus software and Ad-Aware. I also use PC Optimize from pcpitstop.com, they have a program which checks what could be slowing down your program and lets you know how to fix it.

Removing old heatsink from AMD processor?
I've a AMD athlon X2 based system. I want to change the heat sink for the processor. At present there's a stock heatsink and fan working. How do i remove it? Do i have to remove the cpu too or just the heat sink? I did not install the cpu initially but other than that i assembled the whole system on my own.

If all you are doing is changing the heat sink/fan then you just need to remove the old heat sink and replace it with your new one.
Unclamp the heat sink, then gently rock it back and forth, to loosen the heat sink from the cpu. Hopefully, it will come loose without any problem. Once you have it clear, take some rubbing alcohol and gently wipe the surface of the cpu clean. Remove all the old thermal paste.
If you purhased a new heat sink with fan, you probably already have some thermal paste on the bottom of the heat sink. place the heat sink/fan on the cpu, make sure it is lined up squarely, and then hook the clamps on both side, and then pull the lever all the way over , to lock it in place.
There should be instructions included with your heatsink/fan .

don't rate - it is inconsistant, quirky, and to be honest - rubbbish. I want it to open Word Pad. How do I change the

How to change the page direction in microsoft works word processor program???!!!!?
i got recently a laptop with many programs pre-installed, one of these is word processor which is very similar to microsoft office word.... the only thing i couldn't find is how to change the page direction and make it from right to left to write with languages such arabic.
although i managed to install the arabic letters from the control panel but i couldn't find any hint how to change the page direction (there is no tool bar support this feature in word processor while it exist in the regular word)
please help asap......

You can turn autocorrecting and autoformatting off so it won't change the words. I think you can find the options in the Tools menu depending on which version you're using. If you can't find them, search for those commands in the Help menu.

You might need more than just a new CPU depending on your current motherboard make/model. A Core 2 CPU is a Socket 775 package (the configuration of the pins on the CPU chip, which has to fit the CPU socket on the motherboard) so you need to figure out if your motherboard is a 775 or not.
