Are Pc processors able to be changed?

is it possible to change processors in pcs? i have a compaq presario sr1730wm and the only thing i have done was add ram. if it can be changed how would i find a compatible one? oh yeah i have the latest version of xp if that means anything

well it all depends on what processor is in there now and what it can support up to.



you can find exactly which processor it has by using a program called CpuZ.



Then look up if your BIOS supports faster processors through research online.



I have no clue if compaq locks down any of their bios to certain limits (wouldn't think they would).
Technically yes if it's a desktop, but often times it's more trouble than it's worth. You have to make sure the new CPU is compatible with the motherboard. Even if it is, you're likely upgrading to an already obsolete CPU anyway due to limitations imposed by your motherboard.
