Could someone tell me how to change a processor on a dell dimension 2400 desktop?

What I%26#039;m trying to do is change my old intel celeron 2.4ghz processor to a intel core duo 2 quad-core processor. Do you think that could be done? I mean could it sordof easily be done? Also a big help would be to know where the processor is, in the dimension 2400. Thanks a million.|||sorry, but its not possible without replacing the motherboard and the memory as well.

the core 2 duo requires a motherboard with an LGA775 Socket, (the place where the processor actually plugs in). The core 2 duo%26#039;s also require a newer style memory which is DDR2 (double-data rate version 2).

your dell dimension has an intel celeron 2.4 ghz which uses a motherboard with a socket 478 on it, as well as just regular DDR RAM (memory).

you definitely won%26#039;t even be able to get a core 2 duo near the socket 478 on your motherboard, have a quick look at the differences in the source pics.

|||From what I can tell that motherboard will not support any Core 2 Duo%26#039;s. It%26#039;s to old of a chip set. Sorry.

You would have to upgrade you whole PC for the most part.|||Please don%26#039;t take this wrong, but if you need to know where the processor is in your Dimension 2400, you need to seek the help of a computer savvy friend or a professional. You could do untold damage messing with it yourself due to your lack of experience.

Good luck!|||The Core 2 Quad will not be the same socket type as the Celeron. Also, your motherboard won%26#039;t be able to support SMP processors (CPUs with more than one core).

You need to upgrade your motherboard, at the very least, to something from this century.|||the only thing to do is change the mother board as well to one that will take the new cpu, then you will need to re install your windows
