How much of a difference in gaming would this change make?

I want to switch my processor from a E6300 Duo Core at 1.86 GHz to a Q6600 Quad Core at 2.4 GHz. How much of a difference in gaming would this make? Is it worth it considering that the upgrade isn't too expensive?

If your game runs to your liking now and you are smart enuff to make sure your pc isnt running a ton of apps in the background, I doubt you will see much change in performance. Save your bucks for a possible future pc.

It depends on what game you're playing. Cyrsis, then yes. The Orange Box, then no. Not that many games use all four cores, most only use two. If you play games that only use two, then you should get an E8400, a fast 45nm dual core.
it'd make a large difference in gaming. And in general applications as well. I think the Q6600 is the best price/performance ratio for a computer.
Most of the games have their recommended and minimal requirements. But aside from that, games in general eat up a lot of RAM. So what I did was to max out the RAM (4 GB) and everything runs much smoother now. CPU doesn't play as big of a role as RAM.

Moreover, if you want more improvement on your applications speed, try upgrading the L2 Cache. Last but not least, your graphics card may not be so powerful to run your games.

List can go on and on. Those should be main factors though.
