How to change a computer processor?

I have a single core processor, and i want to put a dual-core processor on it. Do i need to update BIOS? And... how do you update BIOS?

Please help ! The new processor it is compatible with the motherboard socket... 939.

The BIOS update process very much depends on what motherboard you have (if you have a %26quot;custom built%26quot; machine, or an OEM like Dell/HP/Acer/etc type machine). We need more information about your computer before we can answer with any degree of accuracy or specificity.



As to the processor, there aren't a whole lot of Socket 939's left. Having just looked at newegg's processor list, they no longer carry any Socket 939 processors at all. I had to do a google search to find any.

If your machine is a %26quot;custom built%26quot; machine, your best bet would probably be to replace the mainboard and processor. So long as you have DDR2 RAM, you'd be able to keep it assuming you select a mainboard that can use it (there are many still on the market).
